Toshiba unveils Qosmio F750 3D, first glasses-free 3D laptop

Are you interested in a laptop that will allow you to watch movies or play 3D games without the need for 3D glasses? If you are, Toshiba has recently unveiled the first 3D laptop that they claims does not require the need for special 3D glasses for watching movies or for playing 3D games. The laptop in question is the Qosmio F750, and it is said to go on sale next month.

It will feature a 120Hz, 15.6-inch screen that uses “a lenticular lens sheet to send different images to the left and right eyes.” The effect is said to vary, depending on how close you are to the screen, but is said to have a more pronounced effect than the Nintendo 3DS for example. If you're wondering why that sounds familiar, it's because Toshiba has already used that very same technology in their glasses-free 3D TV – the Regza GL1.

The laptop will be running on an Intel Core i7 processor with NVIDIA GeForce 540M graphics, a 640GB hard drive, Blu-ray XL drive, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 + HS.

It also packs 6GB DDR3 worth of RAM, three USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 port along with Harman Kardon stereo speakers and Dolby Advance Audio HDMI-CEC.

It also features a HD webcam, which it uses for eye-tracking, to better optimize the 3D display, which means that you won't be gathering your friends or family around your laptop to watch 3D movies together.

Weighing in at 2.8kg and with dimensions at 37.6mm thick, 380.55mm wide and 254mm deep, we can hardly call it portable or light, but if 3D movies and gaming is what you're going for, this laptop should do the trick.

Sites who have managed to get their hands on the laptop have claimed that the 3D is not very impressive, as slight change in head movement will cause the image to become distorted, although they have noted that this could be due to the fact that the models they receive may not be the final or polished product that Toshiba intends to put out into the market. Price wise we are looking at about 1,300 Euros and should be going on sale next month.

The Gigabyte S1080 Windows tablet is one of the most powerful Windows 7 tablets to arrive on the market. Its dual-core Atom and 2GB of RAM should give it decent performance for the current-generation of Windows 7 tablet devices. It is also equipped with a 320GB hard-drive, GMA 3150 graphics with a VGA output and WiFi b/g/n, along with Bluetooth 3.0. It also incorporates a front-facing 1.3-megapixel webcam. A high-speed USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, gigabit Ethernet and an audio socket, along with an SD card reader, provide connectivity. It weighs in at around 1.9 pounds.

The Gigabyte M2432 Booktop will ship with a Core i5 processor with Turbo Boost 2.0. Its 14-inch LED backlit display has a resolution of 1366 x 768. Onboard graphics is delivered by an integrated Intel HD 3000 GPU. Other hardware highlights include a USB 3.0 port as well as THX sound. The keyboard is a chiclet design and is matched with a multi-touch trackpad. It weighs in at around 4 pounds.

The Booktop will also ship with a bundled docking station, which integrates a separate NVIDIA GT 440 GPU with 1GB of DDR5 RAM. This allows the Booktop to be connected to up to two external monitors. The docking station includes six additional USB ports, an HDMI out, a D-Sub and DVI port.

Apple unveils new iMacs: all quad-core, Thunderbolt

imac2011

Apple as expected today unveiled its 2011 iMac. The new models are all based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and are the first to go entirely quad-core, starting with the 2.5GHz Core i5 and scaling up to the 3.4GHz Core i7. Each now uses the same 10Gbps Thunderbolt technology from the MacBook Pro that also doubles as a mini DisplayPort output; two are on the back.

FaceTime HD cameras are also new and give conversations between newer Macs a true widescreen conversation. AMD's Radeon HD 6000M series graphics define the line and give them more efficient graphics than before.

A 21.5-inch model starts the line and comes with the 2.5GHz Core i5, a Radeon HD 6750M, and a 500GB hard drive for $1,199; a 2.7GHz Core i5, a Radeon HD 6770M, and a 1TB drive raise the price to $1,499. Buyers of 27-inch models can start off with a 2.7GHz Core i5, a Radeon HD 6770M, and a 1TB disk for $1,699, while the 3.1GHz Core i5, a Radeon HD 6970M, and a 1TB drive cost $1,999.

Build-to-order options include the 3.4GHz Core i7, up to 2TB of disk space, a 256GB SSD (separate from main storage), up to 16GB of RAM, and AppleCare.
